Modern or Retro – Clearwater Beach offers it All

Modern or Retro – Clearwater Beach offers it All

With so many choices for accommodations in Clearwater Beach, it’s a real test of personality as to which accommodation will suit you best. Do you go for a resort with lots of activities and amenities – and people? Or are you happier with something a little quirky?

The big resorts have a lot going for them. Restaurants, shops, spas, huge pools and more. They’re great – and I certainly enjoyed my own stay at Sandpearl Resort Clearwater Beach. You could have a whole vacation here and never leave the property – though I wouldn’t recommend that. You’ll want to try different eateries and check out the countless souvenir shops and funky boutiques in Clearwater Beach.

But, as they used to say on Monty Python’s Flying Circus, now for something completely different. Here are a couple of retro motels, throwbacks to earlier days in Clearwater Beach but updated with all the latest.

Blue Wave Motel Suites is just a short walk from Pier 60 and the beach. Built in 1948, the facility has been completely remodeled but retains its Art Deco roots with porthole windows in the doors. Suites accommodate two to seven people and feature full kitchens – a definite advantage for breakfasts or snack lunches for families. Décor is breezy and fun with two designer suites – the Jungle Suite and the Tommy Bahama Suite. Bicycles are available and the rooftop deck is a favorite spot for socializing.

As you cross the cross the Causeway Bridge from Clearwater, you can’t miss the bright yellow Barefoot Beach Resort and Marina. The closest I could get to an original date on the facility was, “It’s been here a long, long, long time. It’s real Old Florida.” But, again, with all the modern conveniences including mini-kitchens.        This pleasant little place has a pool. It’s located right on the Bay and just a quick jaunt from the Gulf. And you can rent paddleboards, kayaks and jet skis right here at their marina.

Also try out Frenchy’s Oasis Motel  and East Shore Resort – both offer unique accommodations that are welcoming and friendly.

Choosing one type of accommodation over another will give you very different experiences. Whatever you choose, you’re in the right spot for a great getaway.
