Clearwater, Florida Announces Packed Spring 2014 Event Calendar

The City of Clearwater, Fla. announces a Spring 2014 event calendar that includes springtime festivals and sporting events such as the annual Fun ‘n Sun Festival, Clearwater Threshers’ games, USF softball tournaments and family-friendly entertainment for all.

Clearwater’s annual Fun ‘n Sun Festival will be an indication that Spring has begun. The ten-day festival, starting on April 4th 2014, will celebrate all that is spectacular about Clearwater and why the readers of USA Today named Clearwater the “Best Beach Town in Florida”. This springtime celebration also incorporates a range of family-friendly entertainment including Pier 60’s Sugar Sand Festival. 1,000 tons of the world famous sugar white sands will be creatively carved into iconic movie scenes in the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit, an artistic walk-through display. This year, the annual festival will feature a Master Sand Sculpting Competition, Sand Sculpting Clinics, a beach egg hunt and more. New to the festival this year will be the Frenchy’s Sand Bar, where beer and wine will be available for sale daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Also new to the festival will be the Baystar Restaurants Sugar Sand VIP Dining Experience with limited availability. April 4th will also mark the home-game opener for the Clearwater Threshers, who are the recipients of the 2013 Bob Freitas Award for best overall operations at each level of Minor League Baseball. Other sporting events starting up again this springtime includes the University of South Florida Softball Tournaments. Now known as the largest NCAA softball tournament in the country, USF softball began hosting tournaments in 1997 and settled in Clearwater in 2003. For one week in May, Clearwater will become a foodie paradise with the Fifth Annual Clearwater Beach Restaurant Week featuring succulent fine dining and casual cuisine from dozens of favorite Clearwater Beach restaurants. The celebration kicks off on May 9th at the Clearwater Beach Taste Fest which includes a tasting from each participating restaurant, a Premium Wine & Craft Beer Village, live music, raffle items and a fireworks display. May 12th is the official start to the weeklong festivities.
