Clearwater is home to a wide variety of dining options and culinary experiences from fine dining to relaxed beachside cuisine, but is most well known for its fresh selection of Gulf Coast seafood, especially the grouper sandwich, a local favorite.
Grouper and Stone Crab
The Gulf of Mexico is home to an abundance of incredible seafood, so it’s no mistake that Clearwater is well known for its fresh daily catches. Of all the Gulf’s bounty, grouper is undoubtedly the hometown favorite. A flaky white fish that can be prepared in as many ways as you can imagine, grouper is a hit among locals and visitors alike. The grouper sandwich is the true Clearwater specialty and reigns supreme. Stone crab, another area specialty, available from October to May, is truly worth the trip.
Open-air Dining and Dinner Cruises
Open-air dining overlooking the water provides the perfect chance to catch the incredible Clearwater sunset while elegant candlelight dinners are the perfect counterpart to casual beachside days. Dining cruises in the Intracoastal and out in the Gulf of Mexico are a wonderful way to explore the gorgeous area while enjoying a delicious dinner.
If you want to get off the island, Clearwater is home to many great dining options both in Downtown Clearwater and throughout the community. The original Hooters was founded in Clearwater and is still a popular spot to this day.
