‘Dolphin Tale’ star, Winter the Dolphin, might not be in attendance, but her hometown, the city of Clearwater, will soon set the stage for the 32nd annual Clearwater Jazz Holiday, featuring jazz talents Brian Culbertson, Kevin Eubanks and Dianne Reeves. This year’s event is presenting diversity in styles with a wide variety, from smooth jazz to rhythm and blues, fusion and Latin, for guests to enjoy between October 13 and 16, 2011. The world-class event typically attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Clearwater the third weekend in October.
One of the longest-running and best-known free live jazz events in the country, the 32nd Clearwater Jazz Holiday has presented virtually every jazz luminary of this generation. Scheduled to perform this year: Global Affect, Kevin Eubanks, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Valerie Gillespie Ensemble, Gerald Clayton Trio, Miss Tess and the Bon Ton Parade, Brian Culbertson, Jazz Juvenocracy, Whitney James, LaRue Nickelson Group, Sammy Figueroa & The Latin Jazz Explosion, Ruth Eckerd Hall / Clearwater Jazz Holiday Youth Jazz Band, Mike Markaverich Trio, Christian McBride and Inside Straight and Dianne Reeves.
Presented in the 20-acre landscaped Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater, overlooking beautiful Clearwater Harbor and the majestic Memorial Causeway Bridge, the Jazz Holiday offers four days and four nights of some of the best live jazz performances in the world presented free to the public. The visitor experience is complemented by Clearwater’s mild fall weather, miles of world-famous Gulf beaches, brilliant sunsets, nearby attractions, accommodations, and dining to suit every taste and budget. Featured as the location in the current blockbuster movie, ‘Dolphin Tale’, the city is set to welcome jazz fans and animal lovers alike in the weeks to come.
Over the years, the Clearwater Jazz Holiday, a four-day festival that attracts upwards of 60,000 fans, has been center-stage for numerous scholarship and educational activities to benefit the music students of the Clearwater community from the blues-loving beginners to piano-playing protégés, and everyone in between.
A collaboration of the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation, City of Clearwater and the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Jazz Force, the all-volunteer staff that orchestrates every chord of this eight-to-the-bar event, this year’s celebration sets the stage for the most recognized bands ever assembled thanks to the continued support from the community, volunteers and thousands of jazz lovers.
