Six Reasons why Clearwater Beach was named America’s #1 Beach

TripAdvisor also lists this family friendly beach as one of the Top 10 in the World

(CLEARWATER, Fla.) – Based on twelve months of visitor reviews, Clearwater Beach topped TripAdvisor’s list of Top 10 Travelers’ Choice Beaches in the U.S. Visitors have long been drawn to the sugary white sand. Here are six reasons why Clearwater Beach frequently tops travel industry lists:

Nightly Sunset Festival

Sunsets on Clearwater Beach are so spectacular that a nightly festival, Sunsets at Pier 60, welcomes visitors to experience it while lounging on the white sugar sand. Street performers, artists, crafters, and kid-friendly activities are available daily from two hours before until two hours after sunset. A free family-friendly movie is also played on the lawn in Pier 60 Park on weekends.

Grouper is a white, lean fish caught off the coast of Florida. It has a mild, sweet flavor and remains moist after cooking. Synonymous with Clearwater Beach, you can find many iterations of the grouper sandwich ranging from the traditional to buffalo style and a Reuben to a grilled version. Kids always love grouper bites – Clearwater’s beachside answer to chicken nuggets.

Family-Friendly Environment

Cleanliness, safety and the family-friendly environment are the main reasons why families have long enjoyed reconnecting and creating lasting memories in Clearwater. As the only Florida municipality that offers lifeguards and beach grooming 365 days a year, Clearwater’s public bathing beach is perfect for families.

Lodging Options

From Gulf-facing luxury resorts to retro beach motels, visitors can customize their experience to meet their personal style and budget. Many of the lodging options offer kitchenettes and sometimes full kitchens. Families or groups of friends can save by picking up grouper from local markets such as Ward’s Seafood Market and taking it back to their home away from home.

Beach Walk

Winding along the popular South Beach area, Clearwater’s Beach Walk is a promenade full of bicyclists, rollerbladers, and pedestrians socializing, playing games, and dining that provides direct access to Pier 60.

Art on the Beach

A few times each year, either the sand or the Beach Walk is transformed into artist creations worthy of a museum. The world-famous Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival features eleven sculptors who will fill a 21,000-square-foot tent with large sand sculptures. Held April 13-22, 2018, this year’s theme is Sea America, a Celebration of America’s Treasures.

Another popular art event is the Clearwater Beach Chalk Art Festival where more than 40 artists transform the Beach Walk sidewalk into a larger-than-life canvas giving the visitors a glimpse into the various stages of how artwork is created. This year’s event is Oct. 19-21, 2018.
