St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport Breaks Passenger Record and Adds New Non-Stop Routes

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) announces a record-breaking increase in passengers in July of 2015. The figures released by St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport suggest that July’s 173,743 passengers were the most in the airport’s history. In the first seven months of 2015, the airport reports that domestic travel increased by 31 percent overall year to date. Statistics show that international travel also increased by 22 percent. As Clearwater has long been attracting visitors far and wide, PIE has experienced an impressive passenger growth with a 2015 increase of 50 percent in July over the previous year.

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport’s most prolific airline carrier, Allegiant Air, continues to deliver the greatest number of nonstop flights to the Tampa Bay area. Coinciding with the airport’s record-breaking news, Allegiant recently announced three new nonstop routes traveling between St. Pete-Clearwater and Appleton, Wis.; Scranton, Pa.; and Kansas City, Mo. The routes will be offered to the Tampa Bay Area beginning Nov. 6, 2015, starting at fares as low as $49. The new flights are focused on bringing leisure travelers to the area and are expected to deliver 15,000 additional travelers to the destination each year.

The Airport Director of St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, Tom Jewsbury, states: “We are very pleased with these new destinations. Allegiant will now serve 47 markets nonstop to PIE, continuing to expand on their record of most nonstop cities served in Tampa Bay. Allegiant’s continued growth brings more economic rewards to our tourism partners and our community. As PIE continues to break records in passengers served, led by Allegiant, we are facilitating this growth with an upcoming terminal renovation project and added parking to serve our customers.”
